WHEN THE MONEY HAS NOT ARRIVED

International Wire Transfer Not Received: What to Do

“Sent” answers one question. Whether the recipient can use the money is another.

Check the promised arrival before counting the delay

Start with the expected delivery window on the sending bank’s confirmation. Check whether the instruction was accepted before its currency cut-off, and count business days in the relevant countries. Three calendar days over a long weekend may include little processing time.

Then verify the recipient account and currency against the original instructions. If those details are wrong, tell the bank immediately rather than waiting for the usual window to pass.

The sender’s job: request a specific trace

The sender should gather the bank-issued confirmation, original UETR, amount, currency and payment date. Ask the sending bank whether it can investigate using that reference, which institution last reported and whether information is outstanding.

A useful request is: “The beneficiary has not located the credit. Please trace UETR [reference], confirm the latest report and timestamp, and tell me the next step.” Use the bank’s secure channel for the full details. Keep the enquiry number and any response.

The receiver’s job: ask about the incoming side

The recipient can ask their own bank to search for the incoming payment using the original details. Ask whether it has been posted, is awaiting information or needs an account-detail correction. Avoid asserting that the money is “at” a particular institution based only on a status label.

If the recipient does not have the UETR, ask the sender to obtain it. A screenshot reading “successful” is not a substitute for the original reference.

Read the status without stretching its meaning

Processing, settlement and beneficiary credit describe different stages. A rejection report also differs from a return of funds. Ask who reported the state, when and in which message context.

The status decoder explains terms. It cannot locate a particular payment or prove that a refund completed. If a debit remains unresolved after a rejection, ask the sending bank explicitly about the return and account adjustment.

What a UETR.io record adds

If the transaction is registered here, its timeline gives you the events recorded by the service. Save the original reference and note which record you are discussing. A missing website result says nothing conclusive about the bank’s payment record.

Use the no-result checklist for lookup problems. Contact your bank for the financial investigation; UETR.io cannot release, reroute or recall funds.

When the first answer does not resolve it

Ask the bank for its investigation timeframe and the channel for following up. If that timeframe passes, quote the enquiry number in a written follow-up. Use its formal complaint process if the issue remains unresolved, and retain a clear record of what was promised.

For a suspected scam or altered payment instructions, alert your bank promptly through a trusted number. Do not pay an independent “release” or recovery fee on the strength of an unsolicited message.
