How to track a SWIFT payment with the UETR on your confirmation.
To ask about a SWIFT payment, start with its UETR: the 36-character reference on the bank’s payment confirmation. Look in field 121 on an MT103-format advice, or inside PmtId → UETR on a pacs.008-format document.
The sending bank can use the reference when investigating the payment. UETR.io displays transactions registered with its system; it does not query the live SWIFT gpi network.
- For sender and receiver: keep the original reference and confirmation together.
- Follow a registered record: read the recorded timeline and confirm your email for updates.
- Read-only lookup: no online banking password or one-time code is needed.
Does tracking a SWIFT payment actually find it?
The supplied uetr.ai reference reports these figures for UETRs submitted to that service during September 2026. They are not UETR.io coverage or performance statistics.

How do I track a SWIFT transfer?
Obtain the original UETR and ask the sending bank about the payment. A website lookup and a formal bank trace are different services.
↗ If you are the sender
Find the UETR on your confirmation
Look for field 121 on an MT103-format advice or PmtId → UETR in a pacs.008-format document. Copy the complete original reference.
Ask your bank if it is not shown
Request the bank-issued payment confirmation and its UETR through the bank’s official secure channel.
Check the record in the right place
Ask the sending bank for a trace. On UETR.io, you can look up a transaction registered with the service using its UETR and message date.
Act on the reported information
Ask the bank about pending checks, rejection reasons or beneficiary credit. Recorded website events do not independently establish the financial outcome.
↗ If you are the receiver
Ask the sender for the UETR
The sender can obtain the original reference from the sending bank. Keep it alongside the payment confirmation.
Request the bank confirmation if needed
Ask for the bank-issued document and confirm its date, currency and payment details. A message alone is not proof of receipt.
Locate the relevant transaction record
Use your bank’s supported enquiry route or look up a registered UETR.io record. Available information depends on the service and your access.
Contact your own bank about incoming funds
Provide the reference and original details through official channels. Ask whether the payment has been received, posted or requires further information.
Find the reference, choose the appropriate enquiry service and read the report in context.

Recorded statusCan I track a SWIFT payment online?
Your bank may offer tracking through its own portal. Independent services have different data sources and coverage. Check what a service actually provides before treating its result as a bank confirmation.
What the sending bank can do
The sending bank is the appropriate starting point for a formal payment enquiry. Ask it for the latest available report, the institution that supplied it, its timestamp and any reason or information request.
It can explain its investigation process and any available recall request. Neither a lookup nor a recall request guarantees recovery.
What an independent service can do
A service can show only the records it has access to. UETR.io shows registered transaction data and recorded events, with email alerts activated through confirmation.
It does not contact banks for you, move funds or independently confirm SWIFT submission, settlement or beneficiary credit.
How do I track a payment with a SWIFT copy?
Read the original bank-issued confirmation. Look for the UETR rather than substituting an account number, an invoice reference or a shorter internal bank reference.
01/ Reading the SWIFT copy
In an MT103-style layout, field 121 is in Block 3. Other fields can describe the sender’s reference, value date, currency, amount and charges. Our MT103 field guide explains the difference.
A document containing a plausible reference does not by itself prove that the bank submitted or completed a payment. Verify the document through official bank channels when needed.
02/ MT103 and pacs.008
A pacs.008 message uses named XML elements. Its UETR appears inside payment identification. A customer-facing confirmation may use a different layout from the interbank message.
The reference’s 36-character UUID format is the same thing to look for. A format check detects some mistakes but does not validate the payment itself.
How do I check the status of a SWIFT transfer?
Ask the sending bank for its latest report against the original UETR. Read the status together with the reporting institution, timestamp and message context.
For a registered UETR.io transaction, the timeline shows recorded events with the latest first. Confirm your email to receive updates when further events are recorded. These website events are distinct from a live bank-network response.

How long do SWIFT payments take?
Timing depends on the bank service, currency, banking windows and the receiving institution’s checks and posting. The expected arrival given by your sending bank is a better reference for your payment than a general average.
Use our international wire-transfer timing guide for planning ranges and common delay factors. Contact the bank if its expected window has passed or it requests further information.
What is SWIFT gpi?
SWIFT gpi supports payment transparency and reporting by participating institutions. The UETR helps identify the same payment across reports. Your bank can explain which reports and investigation channels it makes available to customers.
SWIFT’s UETR overview explains the role of the reference. UETR.io’s public lookup is a separate registered-record service.
What do the status codes mean?
A code describes a reported processing state. It must be read in the context of the message and the bank that reported it.
| Code | Meaning | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| ACSP | Accepted, settlement in process | What is the expected next step and reporting timeframe? |
| ACCC | Creditor-account settlement reported complete | Can the beneficiary bank confirm the account entry and value date? |
| RJCT | Rejected instruction | What is the reason, and what happens to any funds already debited? |
Other values include pending checks, settlement steps and acceptance with changes. Read the SWIFT status-code guide and decoder for the distinctions.
Are independent SWIFT payment trackers safe to use?
Check the service’s identity, data source and privacy information. Use the bank’s official channels for payment enquiries and account access. Treat payment references and confirmations as information worth protecting.
What a public lookup should not need
Do not supply your online banking password or one-time security codes to an independent tracking site. UETR.io’s lookup does not require bank-account login credentials.
Only provide the information needed for the stated service. Use your bank’s secure process for any documents it requests.
Promises to question
A website lookup cannot release held funds or guarantee recovery. If someone requests payment to “unlock” a transfer, verify the claim directly with your bank using a trusted contact method.
A recorded status is not a substitute for independent confirmation that the recipient’s account was credited.
Can I track a SWIFT payment as the beneficiary?
Ask the sender for the original UETR and bank confirmation. Your own bank can explain what it can see on the incoming side; the sender can ask the sending bank for an investigation.
01/ Get the UETR from the sender
Ask for the reference shown in MT103 field 121 or pacs.008 PmtId/UETR. Keep the original date and details with it so the bank can distinguish this payment from another transfer.
02/ Ask your own bank about incoming funds
Provide the UETR and payment details through official secure channels. Ask whether the incoming payment is visible, posted or waiting for information. Do not assume “settled” means the recipient can already use the funds.
Why does my UETR show no result?
A missing result means the service has no matching record to show. It is not proof that the payment failed, disappeared or was never sent.
| Possible cause | How to recognize it | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong reference | A short bank reference was entered instead of the UETR. | Check the original 36-character identifier and its five groups. |
| Wrong message date | The lookup date does not match the registered message. | Confirm the original message date in your timezone. |
| Record not registered | The bank confirmation exists, but the transaction is not in UETR.io’s records. | Ask the transaction provider about registration and ask the bank for its own status. |
| A source has no available report | Another tracking service may not cover the bank, corridor or retention period. | Use the sending bank’s enquiry and trace channels. |
| A different payment rail | The confirmation uses a reference for another payment system. | Ask the responsible bank which identifier and enquiry route apply. |
Check the UETR’s format against the original document. If the details are correct, ask the bank for its own record and enquiry route.
Can my bank refuse to give me the UETR?
The sender can ask the sending bank for the reference attached to their payment. If staff do not recognize “UETR,” request the bank-issued payment confirmation and specify the possible locations: MT103 field 121 or pacs.008 PmtId/UETR.
A beneficiary can ask the sender to make that request. If the enquiry remains unresolved, use the bank’s formal support or complaint process. Disclosure depends on the bank’s procedures and the customer’s relationship to the payment.
Read what an MT103 confirmation contains so your request identifies the relevant reference.
